What Members Say About Us
I joined Focal the other day and it seem to me like a promising Photo Community.
I tested the AI critique module and it gives very accurate feedback.
It gives feedback on different aspects of photography like technical execution, composition, lighting, story, impact and also gives constructive next steps.
I would recommend to try Focal.
I belive it will give opportunities for development as photographer.
Tom offers invaluable insights that can significantly enhance our photography skills. The new Focal Community is an excellent resource, and the best part is that it’s free to join (though there are optional paid features!).
Within the community, photographers provide constructive feedback on the photos you share, while the AI Critique feature delivers quick, accurate, and insightful evaluations. This effectiveness stems from the comprehensive 18-page prompt that Tom developed, ensuring you receive almost instant feedback.
Having followed Tom's advice for several years, I’ve witnessed a remarkable transformation in my photography. His guidance has truly breathed new life into my work!
I joined Focal yesterday and am impressed by what I've seen so far. As someone who is not entirely excited by AI I must say I have started to change my mind. I submitted a photo for critique and received a valuable feedback in a record time. It offered me suggestions how to improve my photo and I agree with them.
I also like the freebies for downloading and the opportunity to learn from more experienced photographers.
I uploaded a photo to Focal, and the comment it made about my photo was, in a word, striking. I was really impressed by how it can perceive the elements in the photo without any human intervention and even comment on their positions. I congratulate Tom on using artificial intelligence in such an impressive way with the guiding prompt he wrote.
I joined Focal too , sounds very promissing and a good place to get constructive feedbacks ! I like it already !
Unlike other AI, this one seems a lot more focused.
Critique is broken down in Technical Execution, Composition, Lighting, Story & Impact, which each have a rating and a concise analysis. Critique ends with brief but constructive synopsis
First impressions are very good.
I submitted a photo, and the feedback was articulate, nuanced, and I thought quite on target. AI identified a couple of issues that I knew existed, as well as a couple of others that I wouldn't necessarily have highlighted. It had several suggestions for improvement, one or two of which are not practical for the photo in question because it cannot be reshot, but which will help me in shooting future similar images. Overall, I was quite happy with a critique that feels like a learning experience and not just criticism. I'm prepping for another submission soon.
Focal is a promising community focused on improving skills. The AI feedback was very useful. What I really like about it is the low barrier; if I generally want feedback on a photo, I have to submit it to a real person and can only do a few. AI let's me submit lots of photos and get constructive feedback.
The feedback was well organized, pointed, and helpful. Tom has obviously put a lot of effort into the prompts and it shows. I think this ease of feedback will shorten feedback times and lead more photographers to join the community and work to make better images.
I have been looking for feedback on my photos, to learn the finer tweeks and take them from just good to great. I submitted a Black and white photo to the AI Critiques and then followed the suggestions for cropping, slightly off the right, and highlights, to lift areas slightly from deep shadow, and I have to say such small corrections have made a huge improvement. I am impressed.

It's brilliant! The AI feedback helped me see things I was blind to before. It’s like having a mentor on call.
